I went into this book knowing very little about it. After two or three chapters, I gave up on trying to define what this experience was going to be, and that was endlessly freeing. On its face and in less adept hands, this could be a pile of disparate stories about disparate things. Chin creates a cohesive narrative clothesline featuring sisters delivering takeout, fox girls, generational understandings and misunderstandings, and living in Chinese diaspora.
